Mr. Madeya completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Southern New Hampshire University. He serves in the complimentary roles of Advancement and Alumnae Relations. Roles that he feels encompasses the past, present and future of Mount Alvernia High School and its coninued quest to live out its mission. He has more then 30 years in the business sector as both a member of upper level management and as a sole proprietor of a Boston based small business. This year Mr. Madeya will share his knowledge and experiences with the students of MAHS as a co-moderator of the Business and Finance Club.
As a parent of two Mount Alvernia High School graduates, Grace ’19 and Hannah ’20, Mr. Madeya has witnessed first hand all the goodness of 790 Centre Street. He reflects on his experience as a parent often, and uses those memories to fuel his passion for building successful events and appeals throughout the year.

Mr. McNicholas or Mr. McNick, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science and Mathematics from Assumption College in Worcester, MA. He went on to become a Behavior Support Specialist for The Williams Elementary School in Newton, MA and a long-term substitute for math at Newton North High School.
During the 2021-2022 school year, Mr. McNick will teach: Grade 7 Pre-Algebra, Grade 9 Geometry, Grade 10 Algebra 2, and Grade 11 Pre-Calculus. Mr. McNick coaches boys lacrosse at Newton North in the spring and is part of the Academic Planning Committee here at Mt. Alvernia High School.

I am a proud native of Norwood, Massachusetts and a graduate of Norwood Senior High School. I attended the United Sates Air Force Academy for over 2 years before transferring to the University of Massachusetts Boston campus. While attending UMASS/Boston, I earned a BS degree in Biology.
I worked in the public school system for 20 years as a biology teacher and also coached varsity football and hockey. While teaching in public school, I attended and received my M.Ed from Fitchburg State University in Educational Leadership and Management.
I am currently employed as a full time science teacher here at Mount Alvernia high school. I am currently teaching 7th grade earth science, 10th grade environmental science and 12th grade oceanography.

Mrs. O’Rourke has been a member of the Mount Alvernia Faculty since 1983 as teacher, Director of Guidance, Department Chair and parent of three alums–Megan, ’93, Kerry, ’94 and Cristin, ’97. During her 39 years of service at MA, she has taught World History, U.S. History and American Government. Her passion, however, has been her role as the senior/junior school counselor having the opportunity to work individually with the students and to witness their personal growth and academic achievement. Her favorite time with the students encompasses the college search and the resulting interaction with the many admissions directors and college representatives with whom she has worked to highlight Mount Alvernia’s strong academic program preparing strong leaders of the 21st century.

Dr. Palamakumbura earned a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka before moving to the United States for higher studies. She earned a PhD in Biochemistry from Northern Illinois University. After graduating, she joined the research faculty at Boston University where she worked on cancer research for 17 years. In 2015, Dr. Palamakumbura joined the science department of Mount Alvernia High School to teach chemistry and physics. She is also the moderator of MAHS’s Science Club. As a proud woman in science, Dr. Palamakumbura is passionate about introducing the next generation’s women to STEM.
During the 2021-2022 school year, Dr. Palamakumbura is teaching Grade 11 Honors and CP Chemistry, and Grade 8 Physical Science. Students of these classes will experience hands-on laboratory learning and engaging projects that coincides with the subject matter.

Miss Pecoraro earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, English from The University of Scranton in Scranton, PA. She then went on join the Urban Catholic Teacher Corp (UCTC) of Boston College where she was enrolled in a rigorous Master’s of Education, Curriculum and Instruction program. Miss Pecoraro completed her Master’s studies and earned her degree in May of 2021.
During the 2021-2022 school year, Miss Pecoraro will teach: Grades 7 & 8 Theology, Grade 9 Creative Writing, and Grade 11/12 CP Introduction to Psychology. Her co-curricular activities at Mount Alvernia High School include leading the Debate team as well as moderating the student-based literary magazine, The What-Not. In addition to her teaching and co-curricular roles, this year Miss Pecoraro will also be serving as the school’s Social Media Coordinator.
Miss Pecoraro is also the product of a Catholic, all-girls school education and is delighted to be working at Mount Alvernia High School to empower confident young women of the future.

Dr. Peterson double-majored in Mathematics and Music at Wellesley College. She went on to graduate school at Dartmouth College, where she earned a Ph.D. in Mathematical Logic. She had taught at Colby-Sawyer College, Dartmouth College, UMass Dartmouth and Melrose High School, and 2021-22 is her 7th year teaching at Mount Alvernia.
Dr. Peterson teaches algebra 2, AP calculus AB and BC, discrete math, and AP physics C. She also coaches the math team, which competes in a regional math league. She is also actively involved in several regional orchestras, including the North Shore Philharmonic, the Melrose Symphony and the Lowell Philharmonic, where she plays French Horn.

Ms. Street earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Studies Education and a Bachelor’s of Arts in History from Boston University in Boston, MA. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at Boston College. While studying at Boston University, completed her teaching practicum at an all-boys’ Christian school in the Fulham neighborhood of London, England. She credits that experience for instilling in her a passion for single-gender and faith-based education. She is grateful to further this passion at Mount Alvernia High School. This is Ms. Street’s third year at Mount Alvernia High School.
During the 2021-2022 school year, Miss Street will teach: 11th Grade European History, 12th Grade 20th Century History, and A.P United States Government and Politics. She advises the Yearbook Committee as well as the Prom and Semi-Formal Committees. In addition to her teaching and co-curricular roles, Miss Street is the Department Chair for the History and Humanities Department as well as a member of the Advisory Planning Team.
In the classroom, Ms. Street incorporates project-based learning wherever possible. She incorporates multiple historic perspectives wherever possible and strives to instill students with strong critical thinking skills to help them defend both historical and everyday arguments. She feels honored and blessed to be able to share her Catholic faith and passion for studying history with the students of Mount Alvernia High School.

Mrs. Torchio earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Suffolk University in Boston, MA. Mrs. Torchio is a strong believer in Catholic education. She has worked in administrative roles in Catholic schools for over 15 years and is the proud parent of two children who both attended Catholic schools for their entire educational careers!
She loves being a part of the Mount Alvernia Community and as the Front Office Manager has the unique opportunity to get to know each student on a daily basis. She feels privileged to see the students grow from grade 7 through graduation and develop into confident and strong women of faith, ready to take on the world around them!

She has worked as a guidance counselor at Brookline High School and Granby High School in Connecticut. She has also been an academic advisor for student athletes at Boston College and Duquesne University , an admissions counselor at the University of Connecticut, and taught a first year experience course at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.
Mrs. Williams is in her second year as guidance counselor for grades 7-10 and will continue to work with her students on their personal growth and academic development in addition to college and career awareness. Outside of school, Mrs. Williams enjoys being outdoors, traveling (when she can), and watching her three kids play the sports they love.
