Why an all girls school?

Is an all girls Catholic education still relevant in the 21st century?

We would argue it’s never been more so today.

While some of the challenges young girls face today are timeless, others are unlike anything previous generations have encountered. We feel it is not enough to simply prepare the next generation of women with a foundation of rigorous academics; we must also provide them with the confidence and moral compass they will need to navigate through a lifetime of unique trials. Honoring the Franciscan tradition of service, we have dedicated ourselves to the task of instilling the spiritual and intellectual values that enable our students to become strong, self-assured women.

And this is perhaps our proudest legacy.

Since attending Mount Alvernia in 7th grade there have been many things that I have learned but most importantly about myself. I have learned the true character of myself and to value everyone else’s. This is something that I have learned that is very important because being able to learn about who you truly are and who others truly are involves having respect for yourself and most importantly to be able to show respect to others. Another important value to my life that I have been able to enhance here at 790 Centre St is that if you set your mind to something, through hard work and dedication you will be able to achieve the impossible.
