We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Sister Mary Damon Nolan, mfic.
Sister Damon was the first principal of Mount Alvernia High School when the school moved to 790 Centre Street in 1972. She served as the school’s principal until 1979. Sister Damon followed her passion for education and moved to Bolivia to teach. In 1993, she founded UAC-Carmen Pampa, a satellite campus of Catholic University to serve the poor in a rural Bolivian village. Ten years later, in 2003, the United Nations recognized the UAC-Carmen Pampa as an institution with “best practices in poverty eradication.”
In more recent years, Sister Damon returned to 790 Centre Street. Always a Mustang fan, she could often be spotted at basketball games. The 2019 Varsity Basketball team named her an honorary member. In 2020 she was named a Mount Alvernia High School 7 C’s Woman.
Sister Damon’s wake will be held in the Chapel of Mount Alvernia High School on Thursday, June 10th from 4-8pm with a wake service at 6:30pm. Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 11th at 10am.
The legacy of Sister Damon will continue to live in our hearts and be forever felt at 790 Centre Street.
